Adelheid Dietrich was born in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1827. Her father was the painter Eduard Dietrich (1803-1877) and she was his pupil. Between 1850 and 1870 Dietrich contributed a number of fruit and floral still lifes to German exhibitions, where they were admired for their precision and detail. Her works were also exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association between 1866 and 1873 and at expositions in Chicago, Louisville, and San Francisco in the 1870s and 1880s. About fifty still lifes from Dietrich’s hand are known today.
Dietrich’s works can be found in distinguished private collections, as well as in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
